A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier was robbed recently by a person wearing a mask and brandishing a gun in Pompano Beach, during the day, at about 3 PM, according to CBS 4. The U.S. Postal Inspector Ivan Ramirez told CBS4 that the subject stole the carrier’s vehicle keys. Broward County Sheriff’s deputies and the U.S. Postal Inspector are investigating. The mail carrier got into a short scuffle with the person and had scrapes to his knees according to authorities.
This is not a rare crime in South Florida. For example, only in the North Miami area, there have been more than a half dozen attacks on postal carriers in the past two years. Most have been victimized for their master keys to mailboxes.
In this situation, our criminal defense team in Fort Lauderdale wants to warn that this crime is a federal crime and can be punishable with a significant number of years behind bars if convicted.
